Obituary for Dr. David Sprowl

Print
It is with great sadness that the Sprowl family announces the passing of Dr. David Lester Sprowl at the Stedman Community Hospice on October 13, 2018.
David was born November 25, 1936 in Burford, Ontario to Percy Alvin and Myrtle May Sprowl.
David is survived by his cherished wife, Sheila, and a large and extended family. He will be greatly missed by his children Erin, Tim and his partner Robin, Bethany and her husband Mike, and Patrick; by Sheila’s children Richard and his wife Sherrie, and Martha; by his beloved grandchildren Sian, Vivian, Alexa, Justin, Keegan, Halley, Addison, Galen, Emmett, Jenna, Jaimie, Blair, and Reid; and by his great-grandchild William. David was pre-deceased by his loving sister and brother and their spouses: Ann and Frank and Bill and Chris.
Beyond his family, David was a caring and compassionate physician who always took time to comfort his patients. Over his 49 year medical career he provided care to four generations of families and touched the lives of tens of thousands of people in his community.
David had a gift for putting everyone he met at ease, being ever ready with a quick joke to make you laugh or a wry political comment to get your goat. He loved to entertain including his yearly children’s party. All who knew David know of his love of the outdoors, cottaging at Halls Lake, canoe tripping, and splitting wood. We are saddened that we can no longer laugh with David, hear the wisdom he gleaned from his favourite cowboy movies and books, partake of his wonderful feasts, or share in great memories as he has made for all of us.
The family extends gratitude to the extensive team of caregivers, family, and friends who have supported Sheila and who helped ease David’s journey both at home and at the Stedman Hospice (a special thanks to Dennis and Diane).
Cremation has taken place. A private funeral and reception has been scheduled. Arrangements entrusted to the Keith Ovington Funeral Home, 134 King Street Burford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stedman Community Hospice. www.keithovington.ca 519-449-1112

Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It’s perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we’ve learned something from yesterday.
